Getty Images is making trusted visual content available wherever AI-native work happens. The Getty Images MCP Server gives customers, partners and their AI systems a powerful, simpler way to discover and use licensable Getty Images content inside AI-powered workflows.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a way for AI agents and assistants to safely connect to external tools and data in a predictable way (the same way a phone charger works across different phone brands). MCP is a common “plug” that lets AI agents talk to content providers like Getty Images. The MCP spec can be found here: https://modelcontextprotocol.io/specification/

What does it do?

The Getty Images MCP server provides AI agents with tools for:

• Authentication – your agent will use the OAuth 2.0 Client Credentials or Authorization Code grant to retrieve a token
• Searching for images and videos from your organization’s Getty Images license agreement
• Retrieving asset metadata
• Downloading image and video files

Who can use it?

Users of the Getty Images MCP Server typically fall into one of two categories:

• Getty Images subscription customers that want to add search and download capabilities to their AI-powered workflows, consuming content from their subscription, such as Premium Access and Editorial Subscription.
• Business partners providing their platform customers with access to content from the Getty Images catalog.

Getting Started

• API credentials – you will need an API key and secret. Please contact your Getty Images account representative to request access.
• Getty Images uses a remote MCP server at https://mcp.gettyimages.com/v1. There, your agent will find information on authentication plus all available tools.

A few general notes

In the spirit of MCP, please do not hard code to specific tools and/or parameters. We will be making changes and adding new functionality in the coming weeks and months, so please let your agent discover what is available at the time it’s needed.

Throttling – calls are throttled at a rate of 20 queries per second.
